Does dying your hair REALLY kill it?

i want to put low lights in my hair to add some texture and stuff like that but my mom keeps telling me " your going to killl your hair! dont do it!"

people tell me i have really nice hair. i can put a simple product like gel or smoother in it and blow dry it and itll come out pretty straight. will it become dry or whatever if i put in low lights or dye it?

thanks! :)

Does dying your hair REALLY kill it?

if it's done by a professional nothing is going to "kill" your hair. Someone who knows what they are talking about will tell you your limitations if any. Going darker, or putting low lites (darker color) in your hair won't hurt it at all. A professional would use a demi or semi permanent color, which is mixed with a very very low level of peroxide. It will even make your hair look shinier because something like that seals the cuticle down. when you get into bleaching and what not, thats when you get damage, but simple hilites won't hurt-stylists mix whats good for each individual person not just pick a box off a shelf. I'm sure if you wanted a huge huge change and it could be a little damaging they would absolutely have to tell you-but the good thing is that they can give you alternatives to make you and your hair happy

You should be fine. Low lights are only on certain peices of hair (as opposed to all over color) so the rest of your hair will be fine. If you get it done by a reputable colorist your hair will be FINE you probably won't even notice a difference. The only thing you really have to worry about is bleach...it's not the best for your hair. But in all seriousness- I bleach my hair blonde (at Aveda) and my hair is NOT dead- it's fine- and I get my hair done every 6 weeks or so to keep up the color.

Your mom is either ignorant (just meaning she doesn't know) about coloring hair or she is coming up with a BS reason to tell you no.

As long as you don't dye it over 2 times within, say, a month then it usually will not damage your hair.

Just make sure to keep it conditioned and use heat-products or mouse when drying/straightening/curling your hair.

And if you get it permed or chemically straightened, it's probably not best to put in highlights.

But Hightlights are an ok thing, they're not going to really hurt your hair unless you do it excessively, or have really fragile, thin hair.

Hair is already dead. so you cant kill it anymore. if you read the instructions and alll then it shouldnt harm it or ruin it .. because it cant get any deader. ive died my hair before a heap of times .. the only thing that has happened is the colours change ..

you can go buy stuff from shops and do it yourself or go to a hairdressers and get them to do it for you ..

hope it goes well . xx

Hair is not "alive". It might get dry. Just buy a good conditioner.

Does dying your hair REALLY kill it?

not if you use a good conditioner and stuff. you should be fine. and also it is not an allover color so it wont kill it.

Does dying your hair REALLY kill it?

you wont kill it as long as you take extra care with it after its done, just make sure to use products especially for colored hair and be aware you will have regrowth so once you start you probably wont stop dying it. its not all that bad though, good luck.

Does dying your hair REALLY kill it?

NO! IF U WANT TO DYE YOUR HAIR THEN DO SO! IT MIGHT CHANGE THE TEXTURE OF UR HAIR BUT IT WON'T KILL IT

Does dying your hair REALLY kill it?

As long as you are not going too light. The lighter you make the streaks the more color you remove from the hair's pigment and the more damage it will do.
