Dyin my hair tonight, help...?
As a former licensed hairdresser and salon manager for 15 years, I am qualified to tell you, yes, you CAN wash your hair today and dye it tonight. There's a reason why you are not advised to wash the hair first, and it has nothing to do with color "taking" better on dirty hair. The reason is that most people scrub the scalp with their fingernails when washing, and this makes little scratches on the scalp, which will then be prone to chemical burning from the dye. Dye will actually take better on clean hair, because the product does not have to penterate through all the "gunk". So go ahead and wash the hair, gently and lightly, without scrubbing the scalp, do not apply conditioner or any styling product, and later tonight, apply the dye to your clean dry hair.

dye does not "adhere" to the follicle, the follicle is the root bulb inder the scalp that the hair grows from, and dye doesn't even reach it. Dye doesn't "adhere" or "stick to" hair, it works by the chemical process of lifting the cuticle (outer layers of the hair, resembling overlapping shingles) and then removing some of the color molecules in the cortex (the "inner" layer of the hair shaft) and then redepositing new artificial color molecules into the hair. The conditioning product in L'Oreal then smoothes the cuticle scales back down around the newly colored hair shaft.

the reason being is that dye takes to dirty hair much better than to clean hair so in order to get even base colour you should really have dirty hair
Its completely safe to dye onto clean hair i just find that it doesn't work as well

don't wash it because the colour won't take on the shampoo! just brush it out and you'll be giving it a good rinse and condition after the colouring anyway.

Is it possible for you to delay dying your hair tonight so that you can wash and mousse and gel from your hair?
Dyin my hair tonight, help...?
the reason why thy say not to dye it is because the dye does not stay to the hair as well when you was it because of the film shampoo and conditioner leave on your hair! So if you dye freshly washed hair you won't get the same result! I recommend going to a professional certified colour specialist for a weave!

No cause mouse is 'like' a protective layer on your hair, which will not give the best colour effect.
My advise to you is wash your hair, leave hair unwashed for a few more days then dye it.... will look fab then babe
Hope turns out just the way you want it....

i think they mean if you wash it make sure your hairs not wet when you actually dye it, cause I've used them before and mine turned out all right

Hi!
The problem is that when you wash your hair, it can sometimes be difficult for the dye to 'grip' your hair shaft: meaning that the colour will fade very quickly.
However, if you've got a few days worth of products on it, you'll probably have the same problem.
If you *really* need to do it tonight, wash and dry your hair (but use VERY little shampoo, and NO conditioner), then cut a small piece of hair from underneath. Mix up a little dye and do a strand test (should give instructions in pack). It will only take an hour or so, and then you'll be able to judge whether or not to do it!
Or, wash your hair tonight then leave dying it until the morning - it will give your hair some time to produce some of it's natural oils and therefore your hair will take better to the dye.
If you can't be bothered with being cautious, then you're probably fine to just go ahead with it! But if you do have time, do the strand test or wait until tomorrow!

Wash your hair first.

It is completely safe to dye your hair after you have washed it. The only reason that you are not supposed to dye clean hair it that 1) The natural oils in your hair protects it during the dying process and 2) the dye clings to the oil very well. It will not actually make a big difference. I would avoid dying your hair with a ton of styling products in it. The dye will not be able to adhear to the hair follicule because it is already coated in product. Wash your hair and then dye it.

My stylist told me that it's ok *not* to wash the hair before color. She said the color cuts through whatever is on the hair.
Sometimes people have a sensitive scalp after washing and so it may be best to wait a day or two before coloring.

Hi, ive used hair dyes on my hair when I have products on and I find that they go one ok. and the colour comes out ok.
The only reason why it tells you do do it on unwashed hair is to protect hair and scalp from loosing its natural oils which you will loose if you wash it first. Ive washed my hair first and then dried it once before I put a dye on and it wash horrible my hair was like straw. So I wouldnt recommend washing it first. You could wash it now and then wait till tomorrow but if your like me and have to rely on you hair products to tame the hair of you cant go out with your hair in a right state then you will have to put some products on. I would just dye it anyways its fine as long as you dont have hair wax on.
Dyin my hair tonight, help...?
personally i would wash the products out first, wait a couple of days then dye
